EVM incident on Assam: Election Commission of India has ordered repoll and suspended four poll officials

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered repoll and suspended four poll officials.

The suspended officers are Presiding Officer: Sahab Uddin Talukdar; First Polling Officer, Sourav Acharjee, Second Polling Officer, Abdul Mumit Choudhary, Third Polling officer: Sahab Uddin Tapadar.

The EVMs were allegedly found in ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Krishnendu Paul’s car at Patharkandi in Karimganj district of Assam.

Senior journalist Atanu Bhuyan first tweeted about the EVMs allegedly having been found in Paul’s car hours after the polling for the second phase of elections in Assam ended.

The video has now been widely shared on social media.

The Congress has threatened to boycott the elections following the second phase of polling ended in Assam after a video showing electronic voting machines (EVMs) being transported in the vehicle of BJP MLA Krishnendu Paul surfaced.
