Social activist Akhil Gogoi takes oath as an MLA of Assam.
Gogoi elected as an MLA from Sivasagar constituency by defeating his nearest rival BJP candidate.
Akhil had been in judicial custody since December 2019, when he was arrested for allegedly inciting anti-CAA protests. He also formed a new political regional party in Assam Raijor dal.
On May 11 a Special NIA Court granted permission to Akhil Gogoi to take oath as a legislator in the Assam Assembly.
