One of the unknown College of Assam

Once upon a time, Lala Rural College was the only higher education institution in the southern part of Hailakandi district Assam. This College was established in July 1964 to uplift the village people and facilitate the children of the backward communities, especially tea garden labourers, to develop the developed sections of the people in Higher Education with fewer hurdles and fewer costs.

During the initial days, classes used to be held in the premises of Lala H.S. & M.P. School, but soon the College authority with the help of the generous public donation of the locality and the members of the staff shifted the classes to its own building situated in the bank of river Dhaleswari. The College has now ten buildings including a Community Hall (donated) and a Library. Arrangement for Arts and Commerce Classes has been done in two separate blocks.

Lala Rural College, Lala offers undergraduate courses leading to B. A and BCOM degrees at Honours and General levels. Recently, the College has introduced a certificate course in Computer Application with the help of an external agency. Computer courses are offered to students and the community around them.

The mission of this College is to provide quality education to students including in particular, economically weaker students irrespective of caste, creed or any other consideration and in this process of a learning system to ensure their full dedication and commitment in all spheres of life.
