Hima Das fails to qualify for Tokyo Olympics.
The qualifying time of 22.80 seconds in the women’s 200 meters finals at the inter-state athletics championship which was held in Patiala on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old Asian Games medalist Hima Das finished fifth with a timing of 25.03 seconds.
Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju tweeted, “Injuries are part & parcel of athlete’s life. I spoke to @HimaDas8 and told her not to lose heart on missing the Olympics #Tokyo2020 and prepare for 2022 Asian Games, 2022 Commonwealth Games and 2024 Paris Olympics!”
The AFI’s selection committee will meet on Saturday to select the Indian team for the Tokyo Olympics.
Hima is the only Indian athlete who won gold in any World Championships.
In 2018 Hima won 400m gold in the World Junior Championships.
