On the 75th Independence Day of India, team Voice of Environment (VoE), a youth environmental organization, conducted a plantation program at Guwahati Railway Station premises Guwahati, Assam. VoE is working on the mission Clean and Green Assam initiative by emphasizing environmental education and awareness among students and citizens. In the current scenario entire global is facing the pandemic as Covid-19. The Guwahati Railway station is chosen for the drive because it has an excellent example for the environmentally sustainable railway station in the country, especially for its solar energy supported railways under the Indian Railways and also to send a positive message to every citizen and community. Therefore, it has decided to conduct the drive at the railway station premise on this august occasion to convey a message among the citizens and youth’s community of the state and country. The team requested all join hands for such environmental initiatives throughout the state and around the country to become self-sufficient, secure food, and green. The entire world and country face a COVID-19 pandemic crisis, so we all need to think for a better, clean, green, and sustainable environment.
The team believes, “together, we can make a difference.” The team planted saplings of fruit and medicinal plants such as Neem, Cardamom, Star fruit (Kordoi Tenga), Krishnachura etc. were planted in the railway station premise. Environmentalist Moharana Choudhury and Bhaskar Hazarika led the drive with RPF (Railway Protection Forces) of Indian Railways and others. Environmentalist Moharana Choudhury has also planted saplings and handed over a plant sapling to RPF officials to adopting and plantation the same. During the discussion, it has been highlighted that in this critical situation that we all are facing, the importance of food security and the fact that if we have enough to suffice ourselves, we can fight with any such global emergency. We need to plant more medicinal and fruit plants, giving us economic support soon. Indian Railways is significantly serving the nation for millions of travelers every day to reach from one part to another part of the nation. Such drives will send a strong, sustainable environmental message to clean, hygiene and eco-friendly Indian railway stations. RPF is also working for safety and security for railways both in train and station premises, so their role is very significant for cleanliness and green railway premise.
