BARRACKPORE MILITARY STATION CELEBRATED RASHTRIYA EKTA DIWAS (NATIONAL UNITY DAY) IN A UNIQUE WAY

National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is celebrated on 31 October every year to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The aim of the day is to spread awareness about the nation’s unity and highlight the important contributions by the “Iron Man” of India to Indian History.

This year, India  observed the 146th birth anniversary of this great freedom fighter.

Patel was a key figure in India’s independence struggle and the country’s merger from 560 princely states. He served as India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister after the country gained independence. National Unity Day is observed to honour Patel’s efforts to bring the country together.

The oldest barrack of Indian Army- Barrackpore Military Station witnessed a series of events from 25 to 31 October 2021 that included competitions for Painting and Quiz. The events were highly subscribed by families of Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and Other Ranks from Barrackpore as well as Salt Lake. Children from Army Pre-Primary School, Army Public School and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Barrackpore also showed keen interest in the events and participated with vigour and fervor. 

All the events were in consonance with the aim of the propitious day and provided an opportunity to reaffirm the awareness, strength and resilience of our nation to withstand the actual and potential threats to unity, integrity and security of our Motherland.
