Security forces of India and Bangladesh must plant trees on each side of the border: Jadav Payeng at 6th Northeast Green Summit

The three-day Northeast Green Summit started in the city on 16 November. The 6th edition Northeast Green Summit has been organized by Vibgyor NE Foundation in association with Don Bosco School, Silchar, and NIT, Silchar.

The dignitaries present on the dice were Jadav Payeng popularly known as Forest Man of India, Silchar MP Dr. Rajdeep Roy , Prof. Sivaji Bandopadhyay, Director, NIT, Silchar, Shri C.P. Marak, Rev. Father Paul Olphindro, Provincial of Don Bosco Salesean Province, Shillong, Shri Probin Chandra Bora, Additional Secretary to the Government of Asaam, Industries, Commerce and Public Enterprise Department and Shri Ranjan Chatterjee, IAS (Retd.).

The opening speech was given by Shri Sivaji Bandopadhyay and talked elaborately on the greening happening around the campus of NIT, Silchar. A the virtual speech was also given by Shri T.G. Sitharam, Director IIT Guwahati. C.P. Marak talked about the importance of Green Summit.

Forest Man of India, Padmashree Jadav Payeng, in his speech, has emphasized inclusive planning of plantation drive where para-military forces of both India and Bangladesh will plant trees on their sides of the border.

“A top rank BSF officer came to see my jungle. I have requested him to do something for the earth. We will only live if the earth lives. What is the meaning of our lives if the earth is dying? I told him if the earth does not survive, how will he save his country? You have a lot of responsibility and duty towards the earth. Para-military forces of India and Bangladesh should plant trees on both sides of their border to stop soil erosion and combat global
warming,” Payeng also advised connecting plantations to children’s education.

“Barak Valley is rich in greenery and natural beauty. We have to plant trees in all the barren lands of Barak Valley in a planned manner to preserve its beauty and to combat global warming. We should focus on planting all those trees which are not useful in household works such as furniture. Some trees are worshipped as well. This will reduce the cutting of trees and increase their longevity which in turn can be a game-changer in combating global warming.
Trees such as peepal have tremendous potential to reduce global warming,” said Jadav Payeng.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rajdeep Roy said, “Mother earth is our home and we should leave behind a sustainable ecosystem for our future generation.” He further said that India has fought Covid – 19 pandemic very well by providing medicines to the world and India today is the second-largest producer of PPE Kit in the world.”
