National Cadet Corps of India is the largest uniformed youth organisation of the world with more than 14.5 lakh Cadets from schools and colleges across the Country. In West Bengal, there are currently more than 1 lakh NCC cadets in 839 schools and 234 colleges and approximately 20 lakh ex-NCC Cadets spread across all districts.
The NCC with its strong and vibrant motto “UNITY AND DICIPLINE” is grooming the youth as future leaders and in nation-building. It gives wide opportunities to the Cadets to participate in various training activities towards development of leadership traits, talents & skills as well as social awareness and involvement, all to foster the spirit of dedication to serve for the society and the nation. In Bengal, the land of luminous social reformers and nationalists like Swami Vivekanand, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Khudiram Bose, Kadambini Devi etc., the cadets and ex-cadets are following the footsteps of these youth icons towards the betterment of society and glory of the nation.
NCC Directorate West Bengal & Sikkim is celebrating the 73rd NCC Day on 28 Nov 2021, at Fort William, Kolkata. More than 1300 Cadets, Defence Officers, Staff and Associate NCC Officers (Professors and Teachers of Institutions having NCC) are attending the celebrations.
In the true spirit of dedicating their lives to the nation, a massive Blood Donation Camp will be held on 28 Nov in coordination with State Blood Transfusion Centre, West Bengal, wherein 150 cadets will donate blood for the noble cause. As part of the celebrations, Drawing and Painting Competition on the themes “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, “Clean India” and “Beti Bachao- Bati Padao” have also been held, for which prizes will be given on NCC Day. NCC cadets will also show their skills in a Battle Drill Demonstration, Aeromodel Aerobatics, and a Cultural Programme showcasing cultural heritage of West Bengal. Displays of Military Equipment, guidance on career opportunities in Armed Forces, demonstrations by Dog Squad, Bomb Disposal Squad and Commando Wing of Kolkata Police, are also being organised.
Major Gen. U. S. Sengupta Additional Director General, West Bengal & Sikkim Directorate will grace the occasion and also felicitate cadets and staff for their exemplary performances in various NCC activities.
