Guwahati: Safety is paramount in aviation and to upkeep the potency of preparedness for any adverse situation, aviation safety week is observed at airports where all stakeholders are apprised about the safety rules.
At Airports Authority of India (AAI), North East Regional Headquarter, the “Aviation Safety week 2021” was inaugurated by Shri Ravi Kant, Regional Executive Director, AAI on 29 November 2021. A Regional Safety Committee meeting was also organized in wake of the aviation safety week at AAI’s regional Headquarters on 01 December 2021 where Heads of the Department concerned attended the meeting.
Sessions on ‘Role of Air Traffic Controllers in Aviation Safety’, ‘Introduction to Safety Management System, ‘Hazard Identification and Risk Management’ were also delivered on 01 December 2021 considering awareness, importance and safety management in aviation sector. A Half Day Training with Workshop on Aviation Safety was organized by the Aviation safety department, AAI, North East Region on 02 December which was followed by a Quiz competition where employees from different departments of AAI participated.
At NER Airports, the Aviation Safety week started with practical sessions. A ‘Mock fire drill’ was conducted at Lilabari airport on the inaugural day. Staff and other stakeholders were trained to use the fire extinguishers. At other airports, it started with different daily activities. Hot fire Drills, awareness programme, practical session were conducted successfully on fire safety measures.
The Aviation Safety Week-2021 concluded on 03 December 2021 with prize distribution to the winners of the Quiz Competition and Vote of thanks by Vandana Sahu, Assistant GM, Aviation Safety Dept. who also coordinated the week long aviation safety awareness programme.
