On 08th December, 2021, under South Bengal Frontier, troops of Border Out Post Gobardha, 153 Battalion have again foiled smuggling attempts. BSF troops are continuously thwarting the plans of smugglers in the most sensitive areas. The jawans apprehended a smuggler red-handed with 7.045 Kgs of Silver jewellery from the area which the smuggler was taking from India to Bangladesh from the area of North 24 Parganas district.
On 08th December, 2021, acting on reliable information received, the troops of Border Out Post Gobardha, 153 Battalion, Sector Kolkata undertook a special search operation along the International Border. About 1000 hrs the jawans noticed a suspicious red colored Glamour bike (Reg. No. WB 26AM 1089) approaching Birtipara checkpost which was going from Bhaduria Bazar towards Birtipara (Gobardha). On the basis of the information received, when the jawans searched him, 7.045 Kgs of Silver jewellery was recovered from the air filter box of the motorcycle. The troops soon seized the Silver and took the smuggler into custody for questioning. The estimated value of the seized Silver jewellery in the Indian market is Rs 3,94,520.
The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Vishnu Sarkar, age 32 years, village Birtipara (Gobardha), Post Office Bhaduria, Police Station Swarupnagar, District North 24 Parganas, West Bengal.
During preliminary interrogation, the apprehended smuggler revealed that he is an Indian national and has been involved in smuggling activities for some time. Today morning at 0830 hrs, Wasim Devnath, S/o Shanti Devnath, had taken Silver jewelery from village Daspara, Post Office Bhaduria, PS Swarupnagar, District North 24 Parganas. After crossing the BSF duty line the consignment was to be handed over to Bangladeshi smuggler Rafiq, village and Post Baikari, District Satkhira, Bangladesh. He further revealed that he has been doing Silver smuggling for Wasim Devnath and his relative Sukheen Mandal, S/o Upendra Mandal village Birtipara, Gobardha, District North 24 Parganas. He gets 400 to 500 rupees per trip for this work.
The apprehended smuggler and the seized Silver jewellery have been handed over to Custom Department Tentulia for further legal action.
The Public Relations Officer, South Bengal Frontier expressed happiness over the achievement of the 153 Battalion troops, which resulted in the apprehend of 01 smuggler and seizure of 7.045 Kgs of Silver jewellery. He stated that this has been possible only because of the alertness displayed by his jawans on duty.
