Guardian Minister Pijush Hazarika reviews various Government schemes in Sonitpur district

Minister for Water Resources, I&PR and Guardian Minister for Sonitpur district Pijush Hazarika today held a review meeting at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner office in the presence of MLA Tezpur Prithiraj Rava and MLA Rangapara Krishna Kamal Tanti, Deputy Commissioner Bhupesh Chandra Das and other senior officials of the district administration.


At the very outset, he reviewed the status of protection works being implemented by the Water Resources department in various parts of Sonitpur district and asked the Executive Engineer to identify flood prone areas and to chalk out new schemes to make Sonitpur district flood-free in the coming years.


With a view to meet the demands of the local farmers, the Minister directed the officials of the Panchayat and Rural development department to take up works to build Agri bunds under MGNREGA and take up the scheme on a priority basis in Sonitpur district.


Reviewing the progress of Jal Jeevan Mission, he asked all officials concerned to ensure good quality of works and regular supply of water to all households through these schemes. He directed the officials to cancel the work orders of all non-performing contractors with progress less than 20% and award the work to new contractors for speedy implementation of the flagship programme.


Reviewing the schemes being implemented by the District Industries and Commerce Centre, the Minister directed the Deputy Commissioner to review the status of all new applications every 15 days in order to help the applicants tide over any difficulties they may be facing in making the industries functional.


Reviewing the status of paddy procurement in the district, the Minister directed the Agriculture department officials to facilitate paddy procurement from farmers in the district by buying paddy at the Minimum Support Price as fixed by the government.


The Minister also reviewed the progress of schemes under Irrigation, Fisheries, Panchayat and Rural development, Food and Civil Supplies, Education department, and progress of major infrastructural projects under PWD (Buildings) and PWD (Roads). He also reviewed the status of revenue collection under Excise, Transport, Forests, etc., and asked the officials to step up the revenue collection efforts in the district.
