The incident took place on the night of 03 January, 2022, in which the troops of Border Out Post Nawada, 70 Battalion in the border area of Malda district apprehended a smuggler from the International Boundary with 275 Phensedyl bottles. While in another incident 300 bottles of Phensedyl were seized. Total price of seized phensedyl is Rs 1,07,324.
The ambush party of Border Out Post Nawada, 70 Battalion, on the basis of specific information, around 0530 hrs saw movement of suspected smugglers with 08-10 bags(Potlas). On approaching, the troops warned the smugglers to stop. On hearing the voice of the jawan, the smugglers started running towards the Indian village. The troops chased them and apprehended a smuggler with 275 Phensedyl bottles. While the rest managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness and mist(fog).
During the initial interrogation, the apprehended smuggler was identified as Masood Sheikh, S/o- Late Fitu Shaikh, Village-Khoribanna, Post-Sasani, PS- Kaliachak, District Malda. Masood Sheikh revealed that this Phensedyl was given to him by Barkat Mian, S/o- Mangallu Mian, Village + Post-Sasani, Police Station- Kaliachak, District Malda. After crossing the International Boundary, it was to be handed over to Bangladeshi smuggler Ashadul Sheikh, S/o- Rafiq Sheikh, village – Bagichapara, police station – Shivganj, district – Chapainwabganj, Bangladesh.
In other incidents, the South Bengal Frontier has managed to thwart attempts by smugglers to seize 300 bottles of Phensedyl from its area of responsibility.
The seized Phensedyl bottles along with the apprehended smuggler have been handed over to the Police Station Kaliachak for further legal action at the Police Post- Golapganj, District Malda.
Public Relations Officer, South Bengal Frontier informed that the Border Security Force is taking stringent steps to stop smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh border. He stated in stern words that he was determined to completely stop smuggling from his area.
