BSF foiled the smuggling attempt and apprehended woman smuggler with medicines worth Rs 1.35 lakh

On 07 January, 2022, Border Security Force thwarted smuggling attempts under South Bengal Frontier and apprehended a woman smuggler with medicines worth Rs 1,35,000/-. Smuggler was trying to smuggle all these medicines from India to Bangladesh District North 24 Parganas area.

On 07 January, 2022, acting on specific information, the jawans of Border Out Post Kalyani, 158 Battalion, Sector Kolkata laid a Special Ambush near the International Boundary. Around 1205 hrs the Ambush party noticed the movement of a suspicious woman who was trying to cross the BSF duty line (International Boundary) with two plastic bags (potlas). When Ambush Party intercepted and searched her, 1000 pieces of Gomela Cream were recovered from inside the bag. The estimated cost of which was found to be Rs 1,35,000/-. The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Momita Haldar, age 27, Village – Haldarpara (Kalyani), Post Office – Old Village, Police Station – Petrapole, District – North 24 Parganas (West Bengal).

During the preliminary interrogation, the apprehended woman smuggler Momita Halder revealed that she has been involved in smuggling for some time. He further revealed that he works as a smuggling carrier for Ram Halder, a resident of the same village. Today (January 07, 2022) he had taken these medicines from Ram Haldar in Bata Mor (Banagaon) and after crossing the BSF duty line was to hand it back to him. For this work he would have got Rs 500 rupees from Ram Haldar. But as soon as she reached near the BSF duty line, the BSF caught up with the medicines.

The apprehended women smuggler and the seized items have been handed over to Petrapole Police Station for further legal action.

Public Relations Officer, South Bengal Frontier has expressed happiness over the achievements of the jawans, in which the jawans have apprehended 01 woman smuggler with medicines, adding that this has been possible only because of the alertness shown by their jawans on duty. The officials also stated that they will not allow any kind of smuggling in their area.
