On January 19, 2022, at around 1145 hrs, on specific information, the troops of Border Out Post Charbhadra Base,141 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier, laid an ambush on suspected area. Around 1145 hrs, Ambush party suspected some suspicious activity and observed a man on a cycle going towards the International Boundary. On seeing the Ambush Party, the suspected person left the cycle and fled away taking advantage of the tall and dense grass. After a thorough search of the area, 6 kg silver (ball) has been recovered from the wheel of the cycle. The value of the seized silver (ball) in the Indian market is around Rs 3,72,200.
The seized silver ball and other items have been handed over to Customs’ Office Jalangi for further legal action.
According to BSF sources, the suspected person has been identified as Jhantu Sheikh, S/o- Imam Sheikh, Village- Arji Muradpur, Thana-Jalangi, District Murshidabad.
An FIR has been lodged against the suspected person at the Jalangi Police Station.
The Public Relations Officer, South Bengal Frontier encouraging his jawans and stated that our jawans are committed to completely stopping smuggling in their responsibility area. It has been possible to stop smuggling in the area only due to the vigilance and understanding of the jawans. He clearly stated that he will not allow any kind of smuggling from his area.
