The Assam Cabinet decides to avoid formal felicitation programme in any government functions. This is seen as an important decision by the state government.
In other words, there would be no felicitation programmes in the government functions and meetings from now on.
Assam has a practice of extending hospitality. And when it comes to formal meetings, the traditional gamua is given as a mark of respect. The jaapi, aronai, xorai, etc. are an addition to it.
The state has diverse tribes like Bodo, Kachari, Karbi, Miri, Mishimi, Rabha, etc. Each of them have their respective tradition and culture.
According to the state government, Assam is the meeting ground of diverse cultures, and the Assamese culture is a rich and exotic tapestry of all these races evolved through a long assimilative process.
