BORDER SECURITY FORCE APPREHENDED A BANGLADESHI TRUCK DRIVER RED HANDED WITH HUGE AMOUNT OF FOREIGN CURRENCY

On 7th February, 2022 at about 1330 hrs, on the basis of reliable input, troops of ICP Petrapole, 179 Battalion, South Bengal Frontier BSF, apprehended a Bangladeshi truck driver red handed who was in the possession of huge amount of foreign currency.
BSF troops intercepted him in the import parking area of Cargo Complex, ICP Petrapole when he was standing near one Bangladeshi bounded truck. On his personal search , three packets wrapped in brown colour tape were found hidden in the pocket of his trouser. He was immediately detained to avoid his escape. On enquiry he told that he is truck driver of Bangladesh which was parked nearby. Search of the individual as well as truck(Reg. No. DMT 132418) was carried out in the presence of Gazetted Officer, Company Commandar of BSF and other independent witnesses. Consequently, on opening of the 3 brown packets, foreign currency of 20,000 Canadian dollars and 30,000 US dollars were recovered. In addition, an amount of 2,600 BD Taka and one mobile phone was also recovered from his possession. The seized foreign currency and the total value of the truck has been estimated to be Rs. 49,16,763/-
Subsequently, while interviewing of the apprehended truck driver, he identified himself as Rafikul Islam, age 44 years, S/o Late Soyed Sardar, village Molikpur, Jhikargacha, District Jashore, Bangladesh.

He further, revealed that he is a Bangladeshi citizen and he works as a truck driver and regularly comes to Petrapole (India) carrying export goods. He revealed that today he had come to ICP Petrapole from Bangladesh at 0945 am, carrying export goods (Chemical). He further revealed that about 1330 hrs, inside the import parking area an Indian national had given three packets to him which were to be given to a Bangladeshi national named Sajal in Benapole. For this work, he was to get 500 Bangladeshi Taka.
Through BSF resources, Indian national who has handed over the foreign currency to Bangladeshi driver , has been identified but still at large. He is a clearing agent for accessing ICP premises. He has been issued identity card by Petrapole Clearing Agent Staff Welfare Association.

The apprehended truck driver along with the seized material has been handed over to the Customs’ Office Petrapole for further legal action.

Public Relations Officer, South Bengal Frontier stated that Customs officials have been apprised about this incident in detail. BSF along with other stakeholders agencies is fully determined and committed to stop smuggling which is carried out in the guise of import and export vehicles and personal belongings of passengers at Petrapole. The officer stated that theBSF troops are constantly keeping vigil on miscreants who has mal-intention of carrying out trans border crimes through ICP Petrapole.
