RPF of NFR recovered ganja worth Rs. 15.38 lakh from trains also recovered 383 live tortoises

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of N. F. Railway recovered ganja worth Rs. 15.38 lakh during checking at different trains on 5th and 7th February, 2022. RPF of N. F. Railway also recovered a total 383 live tortoises from trains at Katihar and Kamakhya railway stations on 5th February, 2022.

In an incident on 7th February 2022, RPF team of RPF Post, Agartala conducted checking in train No. 20501 DN (Agartala – Anand Vihar Tejas Rajdhani express) at Agartala railway station jointly with GRP of Agartala. During checking, the RPF team recovered 13 packets unclaimed ganja, weighing 62 kgs and worth about Rs. 6.2 lakh. Later, the recovered ganja was handed over OC/GRP/Agartala for necessary action. Again on that day, RPF train escort party, while escorting the train No. 20501 DN, recovered 15 packets ganja weighing 29.3 kgs and worth about Rs. 2.93 lakh.  Later, the recovered ganja was handed over to the Excise department, Dharmanagar for disposal.

In another incident on 5th February 2022, RPF train escort party while escorting the train No. 07679 DN (Agartala-Dharmanagar Demu special), recovered 05 unclaimed bags containing 33 kgs of ganja worth about Rs. 3.3 lakh. Later, the recovered ganja was handed over to OC/GRP/Agartala for further necessary action. On that day, the RPF train escort party, while escorting train No. 15626 UP (Agartala – Deoghar Express), recovered 29.5 kgs unclaimed ganja worth about Rs. 2.95 lakh. Later, the recovered ganja was handed over to OC/GRP/Badarpur for further necessary action.

On 5th February 2022, the RPF team comprising of officers and staff of RPF Post, Katihar (East) conducted a check-in train No. 19305 (Dr. Ambedkar Nagar- Kamakhya weekly express) and detected one unclaimed jute sack kept under the seat of a coach. On checking the jute sack, 148 live tortoises were found. Further, the recovered tortoises were handed over to the Range Officer of Forest, Katihar (Bihar) for taking legal action. Again on that day, on the arrival of train No. 19305 at Kamakhya railway station, the RPF team of Kamakhya conducted checking at the said train. During checking, they detected 10 unclaimed bags containing 235 live tortoises. Later, the recovered tortoises were handed over to Khanamukh Forest Beat Officer, Kamrup East Division, Guwahati Range for taking further necessary legal action.
