Northeast: Wishes pour in as Arunachal-Mizoram celebrate statehood day!

The Northeast comprises of eight states – Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim. Rich in scenic beauty and indigenous culture, the region is also referred to as the land of seven sisters.

Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram celebrates statehood day today. In other words, it is their respective state foundation day and is an occasion to celebrate at large.

“Heartiest greetings & best wishes to our brothers and sisters from Mizoram on their State Foundation Day.”, reads a tweet by the Ministry of Development of North-Eastern Region (MDoNER) today morning. It adds, “May the state of Mizoram continue to scale new heights of growth, development and prosperity.”

Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu ha also extended greetings on the occasion. “Warmest wishes and greetings to my beloved people of Arunachal Pradesh on the happy occasion of 36th Statehood Day Celebration.”, reads a tweet by Khandu, today morning.

He adds, “Let us all work together and contribute in building a New Arunachal that is harmonious, prosperous and corrupt free. Jai Hind! Jai Arunachal!”

Popularly known as ‘Land of Dawn-lit-Mountains’, Arunachal Pradesh is India’s remotest state and the first Indian soil to greet the rising sun; mentions the official website of Arunachal Tourism, which further adds, “Located on the northeastern tip of India with its borders touching China, Bhutan and Burma (Myanmar), this beautiful land is endowed with dazzling array of flora and fauna that is sure to allure any tourist. More than 500 rare species of Orchids are found in the dense jungles of Arunachal.”

Mizoram is one of the states of Northeast India, with Aizawl as its capital city. According to the official website of Govt. Of Mizoram, The name is derived from Mi (people), Zo (lofty place, such as a hill) and Ram (land), and thus Mizoram implies “Land of the hill people”.

Like several other northeastern states of India, Mizoram was previously part of Assam until 1972, when it was carved out as a Union Territory. The website adds, It became the 23rd state of India, a step above Union Territory, on 20 February 1987.

Mizoram’s population was 1,091,014, according to a 2011 census. The website further adds, It is the 2nd least populous state in the country. Mizoram covers an area of approximately 21,087 square kilometers. About 91% of the state is forested.
