The Border Security Force troops apprehended a Bangladeshi cloth trader while coming to India with three gold biscuits in the border area of Nadia district. The seized Gold biscuits weighs 349.92 grams whose estimated price is Rs 17,75,844.
On February 21, 2022, at around 0745 hrs, based on specific information, the troops of Border Out Post Gede, 54 Battalion stopped a Bangladeshi man who was coming from Customs’ Station Gede and entering India territory. According to the information, when the belongings of the Bangladeshi citizen were searched thoroughly, 3 gold biscuits were recovered from his trolley bag. After which the troops apprehended the Bangladeshi national.
The apprehended person is a resident of Tikapur area of Dhaka district of Bangladesh, whose name is Shahiq Ahmed, father’s name is Shah Alam Khan. Who was coming to India through passport.
There was an intention to smuggle under the guise of clothes
On enquiry, Shahiq Ahmed revealed that he is a cloth merchant and in this connection he keeps on coming to India. He further revealed that he had bought these three gold biscuits from three different goldsmiths of Dhaka and was about to sell them to Ajit Kumar Roy in New Market of Kolkata. By giving gold biscuits to Ajit Kumar Roy, he would have made a total profit of 60,000 Bangladeshi Taka (Indian Rupees 52,123).
The apprehended person along with the seized gold biscuits has been handed over to the Customs’ Department, Banpur for further legal action.
The Public Relations Officer of the South Bengal Frontier stated that the Border Security Force is taking strict measures to prevent smuggling along the India-Bangladesh border. Due to which the people involved in such crimes are facing a lot of difficulties. Further officer added in strong words that we will not allow smuggling from our area under any circumstances
