BSF apprehended a woman smuggler with Phensedyl on Indo-Bangladesh Border

On 21February, 2022, Border Security Force intercepted a woman smuggler with 50 bottles of Phensedyl at the India Bangladesh Border while thwarting smuggling attempts under the South Bengal Frontier. The woman was trying to smuggle all these Phensedyl from India to Bangladesh District North 24 Parganas area.

On 21 February 2022, acting on specific information the troops of Border Out Post Dobarpara, 158 Battalion, Sector Kolkata laid a special ambush near Bornberia village, located near the International Boundary. Around 1300 hrs Ambush Party observed the movement of a suspicious woman who was moving towards Ichhamati River (International Boundary) via Bangaon-Gopalpur road with two plastic bags (potlas). The troops challenged the woman, as a result, the woman tried to run back to the Indian territory but the Ambush party took the woman into custody without giving her any chance. 50 bottles of Phensedyl were recovered from her possession.

The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Archana Sarkar, age 42 years, Village + Post Office – Bornberia, Thana – Gayaghata, District – North 24 Parganas (West Bengal).

During preliminary questioning, the apprehended woman smuggler, Archana Sarkar, revealed that she works as a phensedyl carrier for a smuggler named Ranjit Adhikari living in her neighborhood for the last 6 months. Ranjit Adhikari provide her Phensedyl a little behind the BSF duty line. After crossing the BSF duty line it used to be handed back to Ranjit Adhikari. For this work she would have get Rs 2000. But as soon as she reached near the BSF duty line, the BSF apprehended her with Phensedyl.

The apprehended woman smuggler and the seized Phensedyl have been handed over to the Gaighata Police Station for further legal action.

The Public Relations Officer, South Bengal Frontier has expressed happiness over the achievements of the troops of 158 Battalion in which the troops apprehended 01 woman smuggler with 50 bottles of Phensedyl. He stated that it was possible due to the alertness shown by their jawans on duty. The officer also added that they will not allow any kind of smuggling in their area.
