BSF foiled smuggling attempt of silver by a smuggler

On 26 February 2022, the troops of Border Security Force under the South Bengal Frontier, proving their commitment to duty, once again thwarted the plans of the smugglers and caught 01 smuggler with 14.980 kg of silver ornaments. The estimated value of the seized silver and motorcycle is Rs.7,61,729/-. Smugglers were trying to smuggle these silver ornaments from India to Bangladesh.

The smuggler used to smuggle by hiding in the tire of the bike.

On 26 February, 2022, based on strong information, the troops of Border Out Post Hakimpur, 112 Battalion, Sector Kolkata were alerted. Around 1030 hrs troops observed a suspicious red colored Bajaj Discover motorcycle (Regd. – WB 24 Q 5959) which was coming from Swaroopada Bazar towards Hakimpur village (Border Village). On stopping the motorcyclist searching, the smuggler started to run away from the spot, but the alert troops caught the smuggler without giving him any chance. On searching his motorcycle, 14 small plastic packets were recovered from the improvised cavity made in both the tires of the motorcycle, from which 14.980 kg of silver ornaments was recovered. BSF troops immediately took the smuggler into custody for questioning. The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Sahabuddin Ghazi, age – 26 years, Village – Dharkanda, PO- Hakimpur, PS – Swaroopnagar, District – North 24 Parganas, West Bengal.

During questioning the apprehended smuggler Sahabuddin Ghazi revealed that he has been working as a smuggler for the last few days. This morning (26 February), he had taken all these 14 packets of silver jewelery from a smuggler named Nepali (Village + Post Office – Bithari, PS – Swaroopnagar), which after crossing the BSF duty line have to returned back to Nepali in Hakimpur market. For this he would have got Rs 2000/-.

Apprehended smugglers along with seized silver jewelery has been handed over to Custom Office Tentulia for further legal proceedings.

The Public Relations Officer, South Bengal Frontier expressed happiness over the achievement of troops of 112 Battalion in thwarting smuggling attempts. He stated that this has been possible only because of the alertness displayed by his jawans on duty. The officer clearly said that nothing can hidden from the eyes of BSF troops. He further added that he also has an excellent team to give accurate information related to smuggling.
