Dr. Atul Fuljele, having an image of a professional and honest officer of the Indian Police Service (IPS) has taken over the charge of Inspector General (IG) of South Bengal Frontier. He has been appointed in place of outgoing IG Anurag Garg, IPS. Shri Anurag Garg, in his tenure from July, 2021 till now, kept the smuggling on the Indo- Bangladesh border under control while commanding the South Bengal Frontier. There is a strong belief among the top officers of the Border Security Force that from here Dr. Atul Fuljale will take the level of border security to even higher level after having taken over the command of the Frontier , so that the graph of smuggling can be kept at its low level. After assuming charge, the officer has assured to check the crimes on the border optimum. He held meeting with the senior officers of the Frontier Headquarters and discussed the issues related to the border.
Dr. Atul Fuljele, born on 29 May in Neri village of Chandrapur district of Maharashtra. After schooling from the same village and completing secondary education from Anand Niketan Mahavidyalaya, completed MBBS from Vasantrao Naik Government Medical College, Yavatmal and then did MD Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at Topiwala National Medical College and Nair Hospital Mumbai .
Dr. Atul Fuljele joined the Indian Police Service, 2001 batch and was allotted Himachal Pradesh cadre. He has worked in various positions in Himachal Pradesh – notably Superintendent of Police in Kangra district for about 3 years and Superintendent of District Una for 2 years. He also served as the Superintendent of Police and Deputy Inspector General of Police, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Mumbai from the year 2010 to 2017. While working in the CBI, he investigated various high level bank frauds and Adarsh Housing scam of the Government of Maharashtra for corruption. Reportedly, he was assigned to lead the team in Lima, Peru for the extradition of international drug smuggler and fugitive Yaniv Benim Ellis Atala, wanted in the Goa drug case. Dr Atul Fuljale successfully extradited the international drug trafficker to India in 2011 and brought him to justice in India. He had also been posted as Inspector General of Police and Principal/Director, Himachal Pradesh Police Training Academy/College, Daroh.
During his service as District SP, he was involved in formulation and implementation of policies related to criminal justice system, maintenance of law and order at the district level. While working with the Central Bureau of Investigation, he was involved in the formulation and implementation of policies relating to international cooperation in Anti-Corruption Investigation.

Dr. Atul Fuljale did PG Diploma in Police Management from Osmania University while in service. In 2017-2018, he has completed his Masters in Public Management from Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and HKS, Harvard University.

Dr. Atul Fuljale has travelled widely in India and visited more than 20 countries for official purpose and private tourist purpose. Tourism is one of his hobbies.
Dr. Atul Fuljale shall be visiting the border on priority after having taken over as Inspector General of the South Bengal Frontier Headquarters. He has stressed on the improving the coordination between the people living on the border and the BSF to deal strictly with smuggling, infiltration and other cross-border crimes.
