On March 5, 2022, troos of Border Security Force under South Bengal Frontier, proving their commitment to duty, once again thwarted the plans of smugglers and apprehended 01 smuggler red-handed with 7.480 kg of silver jewelery . According to the statement, the estimated value of the seized silver is Rs 3,35,260/-. The smugglers were trying to take these silver jewelery from India to Bangladesh.
Smugglers are using border elderly villagers on the International Border
On March 5, 2022, the troops of Border Out Post Gobardha, 153 Battalion, Sector Kolkata were on their routine duty with promptness on the International Border. Meanwhile, at around 1155 hrs, the jawans noticed the suspicious movement of a person, that person was coming from Gobardha Bazar towards Mandalpara village (border village). When the BSF jawans tried to stop that person for search, the person tried to run away from the spot, but the alert jawan apprehended him. When BSF troops searched him, three packets were recovered from the upper part of the right leg of the man, which were tightly tied with brown plastic tape, from inside which 7.480 kg of silver jewelery was recovered. The jawans seized all the three packets and also took the smuggler into custody for questioning. The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Subal Mandal, Age – 57 years, Village – Gobardha, Post Office – Baduria, Police Station – Swaroopnagar, District – North 24 Parganas, West Bengal.
During interrogation smuggler Subal Mandal revealed that he has been working as a smuggler for the last six months. This morning (March 05) he had taken all these 03 packets of silver jewelery from a smuggler named Samresh Mandal (Village – Kaijuri, Thana – Swarupnagar) in Kaijuri Bazar.
After crossing the BSF duty line was taken by Bangladeshi smuggler Rahman Molla ( Village – Kalyani, District – Satkhira, Bangladesh). He further revealed that another smuggler named Uday Mandal was also involved in this work who was working as a line man (assistant) for him.
Big syndicate of Gold and Silver smuggling busted on the International Border
The smuggler Subal Mandal, who was detained during interrogation, revealed that Aditya Tarafdar (45), Jastiram Mandal (43), Boliya Mandal (44), Lakhan Mandal (45)
were involved in smuggling of Gold and silver in this area.
All these villages are residents of Kaijuri and Gobardha, Police Station – Swaroopnagar. These main smugglers along with other small smugglers are working as a big syndicate.
The apprehended smuggler and the seized silver jewelery have been handed over to Customs Office Tentulia for further legal proceedings.
South Bengal Frontier Public Relations Officer and DIG Surjit Singh Guleria stated that the Border Security Force is taking strict steps to stop smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Consequently, the people involved in such crimes are facing a lot of difficulties. Smugglers having wrong intentions will not be spared. He stated that the BSF troops are being given proper training about each and every modus operandi of the smugglers, so that the smugglers’ trap can be broken. The BSF has intensified the proceedings to nab the gang of the apprehended smugglers who exposed the name of the syndicate.
