NABARD Observes International Women’s Day 2022 in Lunglei, Mizoram

As a part of International Women’s Day 2022 celebrations, NABARD/DDM, Lunglei organized a one day programme at the Conference Hall of YMA Sub Headquarters, Lunglei on 08 March 2022 (Tuesday). Pi Zomawii Hrahsel, an entrepreneur and awardee of Vasundhara NE Women Entrepreneurs Award 2016-17, Pi Lalthianghlimi, Branch Head of NEDFi, and Pi Zochansangi, SHG leader and entrepreneur joined the programme as special guests. The celebration of the progress made towards achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment, saw participation of SHG members, women entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders in the district.

Pu Evan T Munsong, District Development Manager (DDM), NABARD, in his inaugural address, welcomed the participants and gave a brief background of International Women’s Day as well as NABARD’s role in women empowerment. He also said that the observance of International Women’s Day 2022 is organized to commemorate the socioeconomic achievements of women in Lunglei District.

In her keynote address, Pi Zomawii Hrahsel, shared her vast experience and achievements in the field, on entrepreneurship and women’s empowerment. She narrated her experience, challenges and achievements on bakery enterprise and how she got selected for the Vasundhara NE Women Entrepreneurs Award 2016-17. She also stressed on administrative skill, customer relationship, maintaining timeline/ routine, multitasking, honesty, customers’ trust. etc. as important factors for successful entrepreneurship.

Pi Lalthianghlimi spoke on NEDFi’s role and experience in women empowerment and also NEDFi’s schemes and products for women. She emphasized on importance of bank linkage for socio-economic progress of women in Lunglei District. She also focused on the importance of thrift and financial management for success of any enterprising.

To commemorate the socioeconomic achievements of women, SHGs, SHG leaders and entrepreneurs were felicitated during the programme. During the programme, Aniawn SHG, Chhangte SHG, Moses SHG and Miriami SHG were felicitated for their contributions in women empowerment. My Pad My Right (MPMR) Sanitary Pads, locally manufactured by SHGs in Lunglei, was displayed and presented to the special guests and participants of the programme.

Pi Zochansangi also shared her experience in SHG, income generating activities, micro food processing activities, etc. for livelihoods of the members. Thereafter, the programme concluded with vote of thanks proposed by the SHG leader.
