On 15 March 2022, on the basis of strong input, the troops of Border Out Post Mahendra, 08 Battalion apprehended five people while entering the Indian territory. Three Indian touts were also apprehended by laying a trap on the basis of the information that came out of their interrogation of apprehended Bangladeshi. The apprehended persons have been identified as i) Ratna Gharami (30), his wife Antara Borai (22) along with 16-month-old daughter Aarohi and her niece Rinku Sarkar (14) all residents of Hooghly district, West Bengal. Apart from these, Sonali Mallick (15) hails from Jessore district of Bangladesh.
Along with this, all the three touts are residents of North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, whose names are Sukesh Sandhukhan (22), Mohammad Mahidul Shaikh (38), Ajay Kumar Vishwas (42).
On enquiry, Ratan Gharami revealed that his father had come to India 40 years ago. He further revealed that he had gone to Bangladesh to meet his relatives, while Sonali Mallick revealed that she was coming to India to visit her maternal uncle.
Apprehended tout Mohammad Mahidul Shaikh revealed that he had come to pick up some intruders in his car at the behest of his friend Ajay Kumar Bishwas. With this Ajay Kumar Vishwas revealed that he is involved in trans- border crimes for a long time and Ravi of Bangaon and Drahjan of Bangladesh also work with him.
All the apprehended persons have been handed over to the Police Station Hanskhali.
Shri Madhusudan Rao, Commanding Officer of Battalion stated that the Border Security Force is taking strict steps to Stop illegal movement along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Due to which the people involved in such crimes and their associates are facing a lot of difficulties. Some of them are being caught, who are being punished according to the law.
