The Border Security Force, while taking action against smuggling in the border area of Nadia district, apprehended two smugglers. According to the statement, 20 kg of silver ornaments worth Rs 13.6 lakh was seized from the smugglers.
In a statement issued by the Border Security Force, it was stated that on March 17, 2022, the troops of the Border Out Post Vijaypur, 54 Battalion conducted a special operation on Majdia Banpur Road on the basis of specific input in which two people were apprehended with 20 kg of silver ornaments. The estimated cost Rs 13.6 lakh in the International market.
One of the apprehended persons is Sukanto Haldar, age 25, S/o– late Sukumar Haldar, village – Haldarpada, district – Nadia and another person Sudeb Mandal, (50), S/o – Madan Mandal, a resident of Dakshinpara village.
During interrogation, Sukanto Halder revealed that Sudeb Mandal and he had taken these silver ornaments from Raju Mandal, a resident of Aranghata in Ranaghat and were about to hand over it to Kalu, a resident of Chandpur, a border village. The real owner of these silver ornaments is Shibu Haldar, a resident of Haldarpada village. He further revealed that he is the nephew of Shibu Haldar and has been working for him for a long time. With this he accepted that he had to get Rs.600/- per person for this work.
The appprehended smugglers along with the seized silver ornaments were handed over to Customs Department, Banpur for further action.
Madhukar Juyal, Commanding Officer, 54 Battalion stated that the Border Security Force is taking strict steps to stop smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Due to which the people involved in such crimes are facing a lot of difficulties. In which some are being caught and they are being punished according to the law. The officer further added that any smuggler with wrong intentions will not be spared.
