Chief Minister Pu Zoramthanga meets with Governor to discuss enhancement of power generation in Mizoram

Mizoram Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati and Chief Minister had a meaningful discussion at the Raj Bhavan, Aizawl this afternoon on how to increase power generation in Mizoram through Hydro Electricity and Solar Electricity. The state’s Power Minister Pu R.Lalzirliana also attended this high level meeting.

At the outset, Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati briefed Chief Minister Pu Zoramthanga about his recent meetings at New Delhi with Union Power Minister Shri R.K. Singh and the DoNER Minister Shri G.Kishan Reddy. He thanked Chief Minister Zoramthanga for his dynamic leadership to drive the state toward development and progress despite financial constraints due to the pandemic. The two then discussed top priority sectors of the state at present including the power sector. They discussed the two viable options the state has in this sector i.e. power generation through Hydro-Electricity and Solar Electricity. As invited, Power Minister Pu R.Lalzirliana gave a detailed briefing on the power generation by the state at present, how much is spent to meet the expense on buying power from outside the state, the power generation potential of the states through Hydro-Electricity and Solar Electricity and other important factors to consider in taking these projects in the state.

Promotion of Tourism, improvement of Air Connectivity, adoption of the Mizo traditional medicine with the practice of Ayush medicines, popularisation and enhancement of science subject teaching at higher school level and popularisation of central government welfare schemes to benefit a maximum number of beneficiaries in the state were also discussed.
