On 12 April, 2022, troops of Border Out Post Kedaripara and Harishchandra Pur, 159 Battalion posted in the South Bengal Frontier area apprehended one Bangladeshi national at 0620 am and another Bangladeshi national at 1815 am respectively. Both Bangladeshi nationals had crossed the IB and entered the Indian Territory. The apprehended Bangladeshi national identified as Mamoon Rashid, (age 32 years), S/o- Abdul Qasim, village – Krishnapur, district – Nagaon, Bangladesh and another identified as Mohammad Arif Islam (age 18 years), village – Amada, district Nagaon (Bangladesh) .
During interrogation, Mamoon Rashid revealed that he had inadvertantly entered India by violating the International Boundary. On the other hand, the apprehended Arif Islam revealed that he had entered the Indian border to see the fair. Therefore, both the people have been handed over to the Border Guard Bangladesh on humanitarian grounds due to the mutual cooperation and goodwill of the Border Guarding Forces of both the countries.
H N Joshi, Commanding Officer, 159 Battalion stated that our jawans keep a close watch on illegal infiltration along the International Border as well as people crossing the border in any way. He added that the apprehended Bangladeshi national had no prior criminal history or any record of crossing the border illegally, hence they were handed back to BGB, Bangladesh on humanitarian grounds.
