On 13 April, 2022 at around 0855 hrs, the troops of Border Out Post Boyraghat, 78 Battalion, Sector Malda, apprehended 01 Indian gold smuggler with 8 biscuits of 933.070 grams of gold along the International Border in Murshidabad district of Bengal. The total value of the seized Gold biscuits is Rs 49,88,192.
The stated by BSF , at around 0855 hrs, 8 gold biscuits were recovered from the shoes of a suspected motorcyclist who was coming from Pirojpur village on the International Border. The smuggler was trying to bring all these gold biscuits from Bangladesh to India. The smuggler was identified as Ansar Ali, S/o- Rejaul Sheikh, village- Pirojpur, post office- Dayarampur, police station- Raghunathganj, district- Murshidabad.
A smuggler became a smuggler after getting lured by a pair of shoes and Rs 500
During interrogation, the Indian smuggler revealed that on April 13, at around 0700 am he had gone near the International Border to graze his cattle in the fields, when an unknown Bangladeshi national came to him by lured him with a pair of sports shoes and gave an item tied with cello tape and said that it is a cell (battery), it has to be given to an Indian citizen at a place already decided in India. After giving the item, he was to get 500 rupees and a pair of shoes from an Indian citizen. But before smuggling the items, the border guard apprehended him.
The smugglers were handed over to Customs Office Jangipur along with Gold biscuits, so that the matter could be investigated in depth and the smugglers could be nailed down.
South Bengal Frontier Public Relations Officer and DIG Surjit Singh Guleria stated that the BSF jawans are ready to thwart every modus operandi of the smugglers. He stated that the farmers, youth, students and other people living in the border areas should not fall in the greed of few rupees given by the smugglers. Giving strict instructions, Sh Guleria stated that the smugglers should leave the path of smuggling and join the mainstream or else they would not be spared.
