Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today reiterated Assam Government’s committment for successful implementation of Karbi Peace Accord and said that once all clauses of the Peace Accord is fully implemented, the region will be one of the most developed in the country.
Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said this while taking part in a public meeting held as part of distribution of financial assistance to surrendered militants and inauguration of several developmental projects under Karbi Peace Accord at Diphu today.
The Chief Minister ceremonially distributed cheques of one-time financial assistance to 1030 nos. surrendered militants out of total 1926 nos. who have been provided Rs. 4 lakh each as fixed deposit in the programme.
The surrendered militants included 3 (three) factions of Karbi Longri NC Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF), People’s Democratic Council of Karbi Longri (PDCK), United People’s Liberation Army (UPLA) and Karbi People’s Liberation Tiger (KPLT). Remaining surrendered militants will be provided the one-time financial assistance soon.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister also inaugurated a number of schemes under Special Package to KAAC for the year 2019-20 and 2021-22. This includes inauguration of 12 nos. of Mini Stadiums at Kopili, Howraghat, Langfer, Langhin, Karkanthi, Noomati, Socheng Dhenta, Dhansiri, Singhason, Sarupathar, Deopani and Nilip MAC constituency of KAAC at Rs. 10 crore each constituency amounting to total Rs.120 crores.
Various other roads projects implemented with an expenditure of Rs. 3617.01 lakh were also inaugurated by the Chief Minister Friday.
Apart from this, the Chief Minister also dedicated to the service of the people projects and schemes on waste water treatment plant, development of Karbi Handloom weavers, construction of bamboo made single storey district library building with auditorium hall and district museum at Diphu amd Hamren alongwith foundation stone for development of Diphu Town lake for recreation under Special Economic Package.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said that as part of implementation of Karbi Peace Accord, the State Government promised to extend all possible help for rehabilitation of surrendered militants and accordingly fixed deposits have been provided to them .
Stating that under the Peace Accord, steps will be initiated to set up an University, Agriculture College, Airport etc. within the Council area, Dr. Sarma said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the district on April 28 to give a new momentum to peace and development in the KAAC region.
Moreover saying that Assam today needs an economic revolution, the Chief Minister said that Karbi Anglong has abundant resources and land and this needs to be properly utilized. He also urged the surrendered militants to devote their energies in the agri-forestry sector.
HAD Minister Jogen Mohan and CEM KAAC Tuliram Ronghang also spoke on the occasion.
Deputy Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Dr. Numol Momin, MPs Horen Sing Bey and Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, MLAs Bidya Sing Engleng, Dar Sing Ronghang and Rup Sing Terang, DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta, Principal Secretary Avinash Joshi, Principal Secretary (Home) Niraj Verma, several EMs and MACs of KAAC were also present in the meeting.
