The BJP and AGP alliance has won a near clean-sweep of Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) elections. As per the initial results announced by the Assam State Election Commission, BJP wins 52 wards, AGP won 6 wards. The Election was held on 22nd April.
Main opposition of Assam Congress failed to open account in GMC election. AAP open account in GMC. AAP candidate Masuma Begum won from ward number 42.
AJP won 1 seat in GMC election. AJP candidate Hukum Chand Ali Bakshi won from ward no 1. AAP and AJP opened its account for the first time in an election in Guwahati Municipal Election.
BJP had already won three seats uncontested prior to the elections. The youngest candidate of BJP Saurabh Jhunjhunwala won from Ward Number 15.
PM Narendra Modi thanked the people of Guwahati. PM Modi tweet, ” Thank you Guwahati! The people of this lovely city have given a resounding mandate to @BJP4Assam to build on the agenda of development. They have also blessed the hardwork of the state government under CM @himantabiswa. My gratitude to every BJP Karyakarta for the hardwork.”
Assam CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma also thanked Guwahatians. CM Sarma tweet,” I bow my head to the people of Guwahati for giving @BJP4Assam & its allies a historic win in #GMCElections. With this massive mandate, people have reaffirmed their faith on our development journey under the guidance of Adarniya PM Shri @narendramodi ji.”
