Health & Family Welfare Department, in collaboration with Mizoram State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MzSRLM) on Monday observed World Malaria Day, 2022 at 31 selected localities within Lawngtlai District by organising source reduction, mass awareness campaign, bed net impregnation and malaria screening drive.
A short function, in observance of the Day, was organised at CMO Conference Hall, Lawngtlai with students and tutors of ANM School, Lawngtlai and health officials of the District. The function was presided over by District Malaria Officer Dr S. Thaizi. Chief Medical Officer Dr LP Malsawma delivered a short speech and Pu C. Khaipotha, District Consultant, Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme gave a status and achievement report.
Dr Zothanpari Chhakchhuak, District Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Lawngtlai and Dr Ashok, Doctor Without Border also attended the observance.
Lawngtlai District used to record highest number of malaria cases in Mizoram within a year. Out of 40,789 screenings done, 4,183 positive cases were detected in 2020, with 4 death cases. In 2021, of 34,080 screenings done, 2,238 positive cases were detected with 3 death cases. In 2022 upto March, 150 cases had already been detected.
