Smuggler could not escape the sharp eyes of BSF, seized 6.3 kg of silver hidden in the seat cover of the bike

On 09 May 2022, BSF troops of Border Out Post Amudia under South Bengal Frontier, proving their commitment to duty, once again thwarted the plans of smugglers and arrested 01 smuggler with 6.3 kg of silver jewellery on the spot. The estimated value of the seized silver is Rs.3,19,032/-. Smuggler was trying to smuggled these silver jewellery from India to Bangladesh through the border outpost of Amudia, North 24 Parganas district.

On 09 May, 2022, based on specific input, troops of the Border Out Post Amudia, Sector Kolkata conducted a special search operation around the International Border. At about 1820 hrs, the search party noticed a suspicious bike (WB 01 4972) approaching from Amudia side towards Tarali village (border village). When the BSF personnel tried to stop the bike rider for searching purpose, he got panicked and tried to run away but the alert troops caught him. When the smuggler and bike were searched, two bundles containing 6.3 kg of silver wrapped with plastic were recovered from inside the seat cover of the bike. The search party soon seized both the packets and the smuggler was taken into custody for questioning. The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Tarak Biswas, age – 42 years, Village – Tarali, P.O – Hakimpur, P.S – Swaroopnagar, District – North 24 Parganas, West Bengal.

BSF spoiled the ill-intention of smuggler


During questioning, the smuggler revealed that he is involved in smuggling activity on regular basis for last few days. Today morning (09 May) a smuggler named Bakool Ghazi (Village – Tarali, P.O – Hakimpur, P.S – Swaroopnagar) had given him this silver jewellery in Balti Bazar, which was to be handed back to Bakul Ghazi after crossing the BSF duty line. For this he had to get Rs.300/- from Bakul Ghazi.

The apprehended smugglers and the seized silver jewelery have been handed over to Custom Office Tentulia for further legal proceedings.

Shri Narayan Chand, Commanding Officer, 112 Battalion expressed happiness over the achievements of the jawans in thwarting smuggling attempts. He said that this has been possible only because of the alertness displayed by his jawans on duty. The officer clearly said that nothing can be hidden from the eyes of his troops. He also stated that he has an excellent team to provide accurate information related to smuggling which keeps a close watch on the criminal activities taking place in the border area.
