N. F. Railway begins restoration work in Dima Hasao targets Speedy Restoration

The bad weather has led to further landslides and water logging at many more locations in the Lumding – Badarpur hill section of Lumding division and railway connectivity is snapped with the southern part of the Northeast. Railway has put all its efforts in restoring the damaged line and re-starting the train services to South Assam, Manipur, Tripura and Mizoram. With the last few days landslides have been reported in around 58 locations along the Railway alignment. Restoration work has already been completed at about 12 locations and in these difficult conditions.

N. F. Railway initiated restoration by mobilising men, material and machinery led by Railway’s skilled team of engineers, officers and staff. Efforts are to assist movement of railway staff to reach out to the affected areas so that restoration work can be completed in the least possible time. Technical team of N. F. Railway which has been deployed for quick restoration of this section is well versed with the terrain and is capable to work in these demanding conditions of the Northeast region.

 The stranded railway passengers who were successfully evacuated from this region have also praised the railways for working in these conditions and ensuring their safety. In these conditions, N. F. Railway along with RailTel also ensured availability of internet connectivity for these stranded passengers. Such pro-active steps by the railways prevented panic among the passengers and as well as their loved ones.

In the meantime, N. F. Railway has also refunded the ticket fares to the affected passengers. Refund amounting to more than Rs 13.5 lacs has already been made for 1678 passengers till now. The remaining affected passengers can claim their refunds on IRCTC website (for e-tickets) and at PRS counters of the concerned stations (for window tickets).
