BSF thwarted smuggling of wildlife and apprehended the smuggler along with Parrots

On May 17, 2022, the Border Security Force troops under the South Bengal Frontier, proving their commitment to duty, once again thwarted the plans of the smugglers and apprehended 01 smuggler with 11 parrots on the spot. The smuggler was trying to take all these parrots from India to Bangladesh.

On May 17, 2022, on the basis of strong input, the troops of Border Out Post Tarali, 112 Battalion Sector Kolkata laid a special Ambush near the International Boundary, around 1900 hrs the Ambush Party saw the movement of a suspicious youth who was going to Taraki from Nitayanand Kathi. When BSF jawans challenged the smuggler, he tried to run towards Tarali village, but the alert troops chased and caught the smuggler soon. When Ambush Party searched the smuggler, two nylon bags were recovered from him, in which a total of 11 parrots were found. The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Tuhin Ghazi, age – 25 years, Village – Tarali, Post Office – Hakimpur, Police Station – Swaroopnagar, District – North 24 Parganas, West Bengal.

During interrogation the smuggler revealed that he is regularly involved in smuggling for the last few days. This morning (17 May) he was given all these parrots by a smuggler named Arif in Bithari Bazar, which was to be handed back to Aalmin Gain in Tarali village after crossing the BSF duty line. For this he had to get Rs 500/- from Arif.

All the rescued parrots have been handed over to Forest Department Office, Tentulia while the apprehended smugglers have been handed over to Police Station Swaroop Nagar for further legal action.

Narayan Chand, Commanding Officer, 112 Battalion expressed happiness over the achievements of the jawans in thwarting smuggling attempts. He stated that this has been possible only because of the alertness displayed by his jawans on duty. The officer clearly stated that nothing can hide from the eyes of his troops. He also added that he also has an excellent team to provide accurate information related to smuggling, which keeps a close watch on the criminal activities taking place in the border area.
