Smuggler could not escape from the vigilant eyes of BSF, 01 smuggler apprehended with 2.6 kg silver

On 19 May, 2022, troops of Border Security Force, under South Bengal Frontier, foiling the plans of smugglers, apprehended 01 smuggler with 2.600 kg of silver jewelery on the spot. The estimated value of the seized silver is Rs 1,39,915/-. The smugglers were trying to smuggle these silver jewelery from India to Bangladesh.

On 19 May, 2022, the troops of Border Out Post Bithari, 112 Battalion, Sector Kolkata, carried out a routine search operation, at around 0515 hrs, in the mean time searching party noticed the movement of a suspicious person near the duty line, carrying a bundle of straw and going to Hakimpur from Dharkanda village. When the Search Party searched him, one packet (2.600 kg) of silver was recovered from Puwal’s bundle. Seizing the silver packet, the smuggler was taken into custody for questioning. The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Jiyadali Ghazi, age – 55 years, Village – Dharkanda, P. O – Hakimpur, P.S – Swaroopnagar, District – North 24 Parganas, West Bengal.

Vicious smugglers used to make people ready for smuggling in the border area by luring them with money

During questioning the smuggler revealed that he and all his family members are regularly involved in smuggling. This morning (May 19) he received silver jewelery by a smuggler named Abdul Rehman Molla in Bithari Bazar, which was to be handed back to Abdul Rehman Molla in Hakimpur village after crossing the BSF duty line. For this he had to get Rs 500/- from Abdul Rehman Mollah. Investigation has revealed that smuggler Abdul Rehman Molla is involved in smuggling people in the border area by luring them with money.

The apprehended smugglers and the seized silver jewelery have been handed over to Customs Office Tentulia for further legal proceedings.

Narayan Chand, Commanding Officer, 112 battalion expressed happiness over the achievements of the jawans in thwarting smuggling attempts. He stated that this has been possible only because of the alertness displayed by his jawans on duty. The officer clearly stated that nothing can hide from the eyes of his soldiers. He also stated that they also have an excellent team to provide accurate information related to smuggling, which keeps a close watch on the criminal activities taking place in the border area.
