Ali Ahmed slammed a match-winning fifty while Md Yafi Misbah bagged a crucial four-for to craft a comfortable run chase as St. James thrashed Nava Nalanda High School by 8 wickets to win CAB Inter School tournament (Mayor’s Cup) today at Eden Gardens.
CAB President Avishek Dalmiya, Vice-president Naresh Ojha, Mayor Janab Firhad Hakim, MMIC Debasish Kumar, Hony CAB Secretary Snehashis Ganguly, Jt Secretary Debabrata Das and members of CAB were present in the attendance during the final to make it a starry affair.
The decision to bat first after winning the toss backfired as Nava Nalanda batting line-up crumbled in front of a disciplined St. James bowling attack.
After being reduced to 49/9 Nava Nalanda tailenders Evan Shaw (33) and Dravid Deb (22*) played applaudable innings to take the total to 107.
St. James’ top order lived up to their reputation once again as Ali slammed 26-ball 58 crafted with 4 sixes and 8 boundaries aided by Chandrahas Dash’s unbeaten 34 to win the final encounter in just 18.3 overs.
Player of the match Ali was also adjudged player of the tournament for his blistering performance throughout the tournament and Chandrahas who scored 595 runs was awarded as best batter of the tournament.
Ali scored 309 runs and picked up 20 wickets, highest in the tournament.
