“Long Term Recovery and Reconstruction Strategies” Tranning programme organised by National Institute of Disaster Management, Ministry of Home Affairs in collaboration with Meghalaya Disaster Management Authority

The inaugural function of the training programme on “Long Term Recovery and Reconstruction Strategies” started on the 30th of May, 2022. The training programme is for five days and it will continue till the 3rd of June, 2022. It is organised by National Institute of Disaster Management, Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi in collaboration with Meghalaya Disaster Management Authority, Shillong. The Training Programme was coordinated by Ms. Yogita Garbyal, Young Professional, NDIM and Mr. Surajit Bordoloi, Senior Consultant under the patronship of Shri Taj Hassan, IPS, Executive Director and Smti R. Lyngdoh, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, Revenue & Disaster Management Department. Shri E. Kharmalki, IAS, Secretary, Revenue & Disaster Management Department inaugurated the function wherein around 60 participants took part.

Dr. Amir Ali Khan, Associate Professor, National Institute of Disaster Management, New Delhi gave brief introduction of the program wherein he reminded the participants that they are here to discuss about the issues on Earthquake in the region and the long term strategies for recovery and reconstruction. He also discuss on how to on what type of planning is required if an Earthquake occurs in the region of Meghalaya. On a positive note, he challenged the participants to convert this training programme into an opportunity so that the system progresses in the right direction.

Prof. Devesh Walia, Head of the Department of Environmental Studies and Geology, NEHU delivered the keynote address and highlighted the importance of the departments. He stressed upon the need to make the environment safe against earthquakes and the need for training of the stakeholders and implementation of long-term recovery strategies.

J. P. Lakiang, MCS Executive Director Meghalaya State Disaster Management Authority extended his warm welcome to all the dignitaries and all the participants and exhorted all of them to actively participate in this training programme which is hard to come by.
