In an encounter between smugglers and BSF troops near the Indo-Bangladesh International Boundary in the Murshidabad district, officials said that a group of smugglers attacked a BSF jawan for forcibly smuggling of Phensedyl, following which retaliation took place during the encounter. The jawan killed an Indian smuggler.
The incident took place on Sunday morning in the area of Border Out Post Sagarpara, 141 Battalion. Acting on reliable and accurate information from the BSF’s intelligence department, the jawans had already increased number of ambush and patrolling in the area. Around 0300 hrs in the morning troops observed the movement of 10-15 smugglers in their area, then they immediately informed the fellow jawans and the patrolling party. Shortly after, the smugglers started attacking by Dah and pelting stones on the jawans. On this the jawans also started retaliatory action. The jawan first tried to drive away the smugglers with a Non-Lethal Weapon, but it had no affect on the smugglers, after which he was compelled to use his personal weapon for safety of his life due to which an Indian smuggler was killed whose identity is
Name- Rohil Mandal Father- Sahabuddin Mandal village- Ramnarayanpara district- Murshidabad. 532 Phensedyl bottles have also been seized from the smugglers.
The BSF officer stated that the jawan, in self-defence, first tried to stop and drive away the smugglers by firing Non-lethal Weapons (non-lethal) but to no avail. In the end, in order to protect life and property, he was forced to fire with a personal weapon, due to which the smuggler was killed by a bullet. At the same time, on hearing the sound of fire, the rest of the smugglers fled away taking advantage of the darkness, leaving the injured partner.
