Bengal head coach Arun Lal spoke after reaching the Ranji trophy semifinals:
Very happy with the performance. It feels good but our aim is to win thr trophy and this is a step closer to that. The boys are taking a complete day off tomorrow and we’ll practice the day after.
I believe the future of cricket is with thr all-rounders. Now if you are a bowlrr you have to bat, if you are a batter also you have to ball and if you can do both commendably like Sayan, Shahbaz and even for that matter Writtick Chatterjee we will really move forward. If you have to dominate other teams your number seven to ten batters have to be better than others. In top six every team have too batters, the difference had to be made by the rest.
I am very impressed with Manoj. He hasn’t played a lot cricket recently, didn’t get much time for club cricket either, his fitness got hampered because of the knee problem- but his commitment to the game has been inspirational. If he was not getting much runs in the practice matches, I saw him in the nets all the time and he coming into form is going to be our biggest asset. He’s a legend, he’s among the top five cricketers Bengal ever had. His form is making us a really strong unit.
Our President Mr. Dalmiya coming here and congratulating us for their record has been inspirational to all of us. He distributed bouquets and good wishes to all, we are truly honoured.
Former Bengal skipper & experienced campaigner Manoj Tiwary’s quotes post Bengal’s win:
It feels good when the team wins and reaches semifinals. Happiness multiplies when you contribute to the winning cause. We have crossed the first hurdle towards our goal, always feel honoured to win matches for Bengal.
Life’s never easy, it will have problems and you’ll have to fight through it. There’s planning as it’s not easy when you are balancing two roles. This was one of the times when I needed to prove to myself. When people question about me playing for Bengal after entering ministry, they don’t know about my emotions and feelings for Bengal cricket. My dream was to play for Bengal when I started playing cricket, when I finally got the chance I wanted to win Ranji trophy for this team and wanted to contribute my best. Till noe playing with the same mindset, commitment.
I have reached three finals with Bengal and ended up as the runner-up. This time I have motivated myself with the same hunger and made necessary adjustments and sacrifices to reach the goal.
Every player is motivated, know their roles and playing responsibly. If we continue to perform like this as an unit, it will not be an easy task to stop us.
