BSF troops under South Bengal Frontier apprehended a Bangladeshi woman with 233.71 grams of gold and 191.94 grams of silver jewelery in separate incidents during the last 24 hours and also succeeded in seizing 7.318 kg of silver ornaments from other places. The total value of the seized items is Rs 13,35,978/-.
In the first incident, on June 22, 2022, the vigilant troops of the 68 Battalion, acting on specific information, detained a woman while trying to cross the International Boundary illegally to Bangladesh. During the search 233.71 grams of Gold ornaments and 191.94 grams of silver ornaments were seized whose total value is 9.25 lakh rupees. The woman is a resident of Peroli village in Jessore district of Bangladesh whose name is Nasreen Khatoon Rabi Sheikh (41) father’s name is Rabi Sheikh.
During interrogation, the woman revealed that she had come to India 18 years ago and used to work as a maid in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra. When the BSF inquired about the seized ornaments, the woman could not give any satisfactory answer. Significantly, finding large quantities of ornaments without proper documents indicates smuggling. At present, the apprehended woman was handed over to the Police Station Baghdah along with the seized ornaments.
In another incident, on 22 June, 2022 at around 0815 hrs, the jawans of Border Out Post Arshikari, 112 Battalion, thwarted the attempts of smugglers in their border area and seized 7.318 kg of silver ornaments. However, the smugglers fled the spot. The smugglers were trying to take these jewelery from India to Bangladesh. The seized silver has been handed over to Custom Office Tentulia.
In a statement issued by the South Bengal Frontier, it was stated that the Border Security Force is taking strict measures to prevent illegal movement on the Indo-Bangladesh border. The officer added in strong words that the Border Security Force will not allow any kind of smuggling from its area under any circumstances.
