An Indian smuggler with 7.188 kg of Silver jewelery was apprehended by the Border Security Force troops under the South Bengal Frontier from their border area. The total value of the seized Silver has been estimated at Rs 4,09,140/-. The smuggler was trying to smuggle these jewelery from India to Bangladesh.
On June 28, 2022, at around 1155 hrs, on the basis of specific information, the troops of Border Out Post Tarali, 112 Battalion saw a cyclist who was going from Khaldhar towards Tarali village. After apprehending the cyclist, the cycle was searched thoroughly and 14 packets were recovered from both the tires of the cycle. In which 7.188 kg of Silver jewelery was recovered. The apprehended person has been identified as Wasim Akram Sardar, 22 years, S/o Hamid Sardar, Village-Tarali, PS-Swaroopnagar, District- North 24 Parganas.
During preliminary interrogation, the apprehended person revealed that he does petty smuggling work for his survival. He further revealed that he had taken these Silver jewelery from a smuggler of Bhitari village. For this work he was to get Rs.300/-.
The apprehended person has been handed over to Customs Office Tentulia along with the confiscated items.
Narayan Chand, Commanding Officer, 112 Battalion expressed happiness over the achievement of the troops in thwarting smuggling attempts. He stated that this has been possible only because of the alertness displayed by his troops on duty. He also added that he also has an excellent team to give accurate information related to smuggling.
