BSF thwarted smuggling attempt and seized 1679 Phensedyl bottle, one smuggler also apprehended

Border Security Force troops under the South Bengal Frontier, thwarting the attempts of smugglers from their border area seized 1679 Phensedyl bottles during the last 24 hours in separate incidents, as well as one smugglerr apprehended with 08 bottles of Phensedyl. The total value of the seized Phensedyl has been estimated at Rs 3,44,715/-. Smugglers were trying to smuggle these Phensedyl bottles from India to Bangladesh.

Phensedyl was brought by hiding in the filter of the motorcycle, BSF apprehended

On 20 July, 2022 the troops of Border Out Post Bithari, 112 Battalion, Sector Kolkata were on routine duty near the International Boundary. Meanwhile, at around 1505 hrs, a suspicious motorcycle was seen which was going from Dharkanda towards Padamvilla village (border village). When the Border Security Force troops searched the motorcyclist, during the search, 08 bottles of Phensedyl were seized from the improvised cavity made in the filter of the motorcycle. The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Raju Sheikh, age – 43 years, Village – Padamvilla, Post Office – Bithari, Police Station – Swaroopnagar, District – North 24 Parganas. During interrogation, the smuggler revealed that he is an Indian national and does petty smuggling for his sustenance. He revealed that he had taken all these Phensedyl from an Indian smuggler and was to be handed over to the Bangladeshi smuggler after crossing the duty point of the Border Security Force. For this work he was to get ₹ 1200/-. The apprehended person has been handed over to the Police Station Swaroop Nagar along with the seized items.

In another incident, the incident took place on July 20, 2022 at around 8 pm, BSF Border Out Post Khasmahal, 141, Sector Berhampur cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. Seeing the troops coming towards them, the smugglers fled taking advantage of the dark and undulating ground. After a thorough search of the area, 1671 bottles of Phensedyl were seized. The seized material has been handed over to Sagarpara Police Station for further legal action.

The Public Relations Officer of South Bengal Frontier expressed happiness over the achievement of the jawans. In which the troops foiled the smuggling attempts. He stated that this has been possible only because of the alertness displayed by his jawans on duty. The officer clearly stated that nothing can hide from the eyes of his troops.
