On 21 July 2022, Border Security Force troops under South Bengal Frontier apprehended an Indian smuggler with 16 polybag fish seeds in an operation. The estimated cost of the seized fish ovum is Rs.13,23,120/-. All these fish seeds polybags were being sent to Bangladesh through smuggling from the border area of North 24 Parganas district.
On 21st July, 2022, on intelligence inputs, the troops of Border Out Post Ghojadanga, 153 Battalion, Sector Kolkata, during a special operation in the suspected area, noticed the movement of a suspected motorcyclist who was trying to go from Ghojadanga to Uttarpara village. When the Ambush party tried to stop the motorcyclist for search purpose, he suddenly tried to turn back and run away but the alert troops apprehended him without giving any chance. 16 big fish seeds packets were recovered from the smuggler. The apprehended smuggler has been identified as Aktarul Sardar, age 42 years, Village – Uttarpara, Ghojadanga, PS– Basirhat, District – North 24 Parganas.
During preliminary interrogation, Aktarul Sardar revealed that he had taken these fish seeds from an Indian smuggler on July 21 and was to be handed over to a Bangladeshi smuggler after crossing the duty line of BSF. For this work he was to get Rs 300. But as soon as he reached near the IB, the Border Security Force apprehended him along with the fish seeds.
Apprehended smugglers and seized fish seeds have been handed over to Basirhat Police Station for further legal proceedings.
Abdul Hanan Khan, Officiating Commanding Officer, 153 Battalion has expressed happiness over this achievement of his troops. He stated that in order to stop smuggling, he has also sought cooperation from the police officers and other agencies of his area in ending smuggling and getting strict punishment for those involved in smuggling.
