Bijli Mahotsav held at Bogijuli

As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav – to celebrate 75 years of India’s Independence, the Ministry of Power in association with the Power Department, Govt. of Assam and in active support of District Administration of Sonitpur organized at ‘Bijli Mahotsav’ at Bogijuli in Sonitpur district.


The Bijli Mahotsav is being observed with the view to provide a platform to celebrate the collaboration between the state and the Central Governments and highlight the key achievements of the power sector. Similar events are being celebrated all over the country under the umbrella of Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya – Power @2047 for more public participation and getting across the developments in the power sector to the citizens at large. Sonitpur is one of the 773 districts across the country identified for the purpose and two villages, namely Bogijuli and Amloga, where 100 per cent electrification has been achieved under the Saubhagya scheme of the Central Government. It may be noted that, 46,723 beneficiaries in the district have received electricity connections within 18 months of the launch of the Saubhagya scheme.


MLA Sootea LAC Padma Hazarika graced the occasion as Chief Guest which saw a large turnout of locals from the area. Also present were Deputy Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra, CEO, Zilla Parishad, Karabi Saikia, CEO, TEC, Sobhan Saikia, DGM (HR), NEEPCO and Nodal Officer, Elbin Dipika Doley, officials and staff of APDCL and other government departments.


The MLA in his speech highlighted the benefits of electricity and the unprecedented growth shown in the power sector over the past few years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Several beneficiaries also shared their experiences after receiving an electricity connection at their homes.


To engage with the visitors and guests and create awareness about the various achievements in the power sector, various cultural programmes, street plays and screening of short films on the power sector was organized.
