The 76th Indian Independence Day was celebrated at Thuamluaia Mual, Lunglei this morning with Pu Lalrinliana Sailo, Speaker as the Chief Guest.
As part of the celebration, the National Flag was hoisted at all government establishments at sunrise. At the ceremonial function held at Thuamluaia Mual, the Chief Guest hoisted the national flag and inspected the 26 parade contingents.
Delivering his speech, the Chief Guest applauded the good cooperation between government departments, churches, media, NGOs and the general public for development and progress of the District. He also highlighted various achievements of the District in the past year.
Late freedom fighter Pu Darthawma of Lunglei District was honoured at today’s celebration.
Governor’s Gold Medal awardees Inspector Michael Ramdinthara, Lunglei DEF; Naib Subedar Vimal Kumar Rawat, Assam Rifles; Rifleman Jitendra Ram, Assam Rifles; and Governor’s Silver Medal awardee Rifleman Parvaz Islam as well as District Level Award to Meritorious and Outstanding Teachers, 2022 awardee Pi V. Lalthanzuali, Headmaster, Govt Electric Veng H/S were also felicitated at today’s program.
