On 01st Sept, 2022 at around 0745 hrs, troops of Border Out Post Hakimpur, 112 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier, foiled the smuggling attempts and apprehended 01 smuggler red handed with 20.430 kgs of silver jewelery and medicine. The estimated value of the seized silver is 10,05,217/- rupees.
When reliable information received, the jawans noticed a suspicious man and a woman on the banks of river Sonai with two nylon bags in their hands. Seeing the troops coming towards them, both the smugglers left the nylon bags and fled towards the village Hakimpur. The troops chased and apprehended the male smuggler but the female smuggler managed to escape by taking advantage of the thick bushes. When the troops opened the bags, they found 20 packets wrapped with brown tape, inside which silver jewelery and some medicines were found, which they were taking from India to Bangladesh for the purpose of smuggling. The jawans soon confiscated the silver jewelery and took the smuggler into custody for questioning. The apprehended smuggler was identified as Sayam Ali Dalal, North 24 Parganas.
The apprehended smuggler and the seized silver have been handed over to Custom Office Tentulia for further legal action.
Shri Chandra Shekhar, officiating Commanding Officer of 112 Battalion stated that the Border Security Force is taking strict action to check smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh Border. Due to which people involved in activities like smuggling are experiencing a lot of difficulties and some of them are getting apprehended, who are also being punished according to the law.
