On 21st August, 2022 at 1630 hrs, troops of Border Out Post Samshernagar, 118 Battalion under South Bengal Frontier rescued 02 Bangladeshi fishermen from drowning in Haribhanga River.
The jawans on duty told that these fishermen along with their other friends were fishing in the Haribhanga river of the Sundarbans area with the help of a boat. Suddenly their boat capsized due to bad weather. At the same time, the troops on duty rescued both the fishermen with the help of Indian fishermen by putting their lives in risk. The rescued fishermen have been identified as Md. Hanif Maula (50) and Md. Salim Holder (21), Bangladesh.
The rescued fishermen were handed over to the Border Guard Bangladesh as a gesture of humanity and goodwill.
Shri R K Tripathi, Commanding Officer of 118 Battalion expressed happiness over this commendable work of the jawans and stated that BSF is with the Border people in every happiness and sorrow along with curbing the crimes on the Border. He further stated that the Border Security Force is always ready to help the Border residents, whether it is Corona period or ordinary situation.
