The Bir Chilarai Award is regarded as the highest honor for NCC Cadets of Assam. The State Sports Directorate has been conferring the award every year since 2005-06 and the award comprises of a Medal, Certificate signed by the Chief Minister and a cash award of Rs 25,000. It is awarded every year by the Honourable Chief Minister, four best cadets of each Division/Wing are bestowed with this honour.
This year, from Senior Wing, SUO Sukanya Kashyap Mahanta of South Point School, Guwahati of 60 Assam Girls Bn NCC was awarded the Bir Chilarai award. She has been at the forefront of all the NCC activities whether it is at Battalion, Group or NER Directorate level. She participated in Republic Day Parade in January 2022 at New Delhi. There was the briefer at Flag Area, participated in Prime Minister’s Rally and Cultural Programme. She was the Master of Ceremony during the opening ceremony of ongoing Durand Cup football tournament being held at Sarsujai Stadium, Guwahati. For her outstanding contribution in varied fields and exemplary performance she was selected to be awarded with Bir Chilarai award.
Three more cadets were also conferred with Bir Chilarai award and they were Cadet Biju Namasudra and Cadet Tonmoy Shrutidhara Gogoi, from 10 Assam Batallion Dibrugarh and Corporal Chinmoy Biswas of 5 Assam Bn NCC Tezpur.
