Presented by Zubeen Garg, Assamese film Ekalavya to re-release in theatres on October 7

Assamese movie Ekalavya is coming back to the theatres nationwide on October 7, 2022, the makers have announced through social media platform Facebook.

“With the positive response, love and blessings of the audience, this puja season, ‘Eklavya’ is coming back to the cinema hall… in a new form… with renewed vigour… with new hope… 7th October, 2022 #MarkTheDate #Ekalavya”, read the update from the makers in the movie’s Facebook page.

A novel addition for the re-release is singer, songwriter and musician Zubeen Garg and Garima Saikia Garg’s association with the film as presenters. Zubeen Garg also shared the new trailer of the movie starring Kamal Lochan and Roopchanda Sarma in the leading roles, from his official Facebook page.

The songs which are already available across all audio streaming platforms like YouTube, JioSaavn, Spotify, iTunes etc. have found great popularity among the audiences. The songs Xadhu Eti sung by Zubeen Garg and Boomerang Jibon sung by Kaysee with music arranged by Arup Jyoti Baruah of Cultivators have went on to become fan favourites.

The movie faced a number of difficulties at its initial release on January 7, 2022, including cinema hall closures, 50% occupancy limits, and other restrictions brought about by the second wave of the pandemic, and many others.

“Although many shows were houseful even back then, but the film failed to reach its full potential. By the third week, there were just two theatres showing the movie”, says Alfred Haque, the director of the movie.

The producers believe that the film was made for the big screen experience and there is still a market for the film and hence there are no intentions of releasing it on OTT platforms.

Talking about some new plans for the re-release, director Alfred says, “Actually, our publicity was a little lacking the last time and therefore we are considering new strategies to promote the movie this time. Additionally, Zubeen Garg is involved with the film this time. And there were a few slippages which we are looking forward to rectify this time.”

Ekalavya promises to be a wholesome family entertainer with an all-inclusive package of romance, action, thrill and drama. The cast of this action bonanza includes actor Kamal Lochan and Roopchanda Sarma in the lead, along with Himanshu Gogoi, Atanu Mahanta, Karishma Puzari, Mukut Nath, and veterans Chinmoy Kataki, Mala Goswami and Arun Nath.
The film was nominated for ten Prag Cine Awards 2022 out of which it won five including the Best Popular Film, Best Popular Actor (Male), Best Popular Actor (Female), Best Singer (Male) and Best Singer (Female).

Besides, post the conclusion of its theatrical run, special screenings of the movie was also organized in several places like Golaghat, Titabor and Mandakata in April 2022.
“Ten lakh people were expected to witness the movie. However, due to the given situations which were beyond our control, we were only able to reach out to some ten thousand viewers. Therefore, we are still left with nine lakh and ninety thousand viewers to present the movie to. I hope the re-release in the Durga Puja season will fill this gap and everyone will accept the film”, shares the director of the movie.
Although it is a new phenomenon for Assamese cinema, theatrical re-releases of films are not unheard of in Assam. In recent times, it was Bidyut Kotoky’s Xhoixobote Dhemalite (Rainbow Fields) which released for a second time in the theatres of Assam.

Ekalavya hits the big screens again on October 7, 2022.
